7.8Hz is a site specific installation commissioned by Fundación Botín, which consists in an intervention on the public lighting system in the park. On a regular timing, the entire public lighting system flickers for a short period of time.
The title – 7.8 hz – refers to the specific flickering frequency that is used in the work presented in the Pereda Gardens. This frequency, also known as “Schumann Resonance”, refers to the one of the electromagnetic field of the earth. Whether by coincidence or not, it also happens to be a very powerful frequency to use with brainwave entrainment. It is known to stimulate human growth hormones levels and cerebral blood flow, which induce a state of deep consciousness.
Note: 7.8Hz is active from sunset to sunrise. Its timing is based on the schedule of operation of the public lighting system. The flickering cycle starts one hour after the lighting system has been switched and repeats every hour. It lasts 3 minutes.
