Published to mark the exhibition by Julie Mehteru, A universal history of all and nothing at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (Oporto) and the Botín Centre, this volume includes formal, pictorial, critical and poetic layers that make up the practice of this artist and includes new texts by such prestigious authors as Amin Maalouf and Marina Warner, as well as a curatorial panoramic vision by Suzanne Cotter, Director of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (Oporto).
Along with new photographs documenting Mehretu’s work process in her studio and large-scale, detailed reproductions of paintings and drawings by the artist, the book reproduces images selected by Mehretu herself as part of a visual universe that is compelling and rich in layers. It includes texts by Benjamin Weil and Suzanne Cotter, as well as by Amin Maalouf and Marina Warner.
