Catalogue for the exhibition at the Centro Botín from 19th March to 2nd September 2018, curated by María José Salazar and Joan Punyet Miró.
Prepared under the supervision of María José Salazar, this catalogue examines the work carried out by the two curators, linking the sculptures of Joan Miró with extensive documentation that throws light on the creative process of one of the greatest and most original maestros of the 20th century: photographs of the artist working, images of objects used in his compositions, as well as reproductions of the sketches he made to send them to the foundries. Furthermore, three essays provide an intimate vision of the artist’s creative process, by two of his grandchildren – Emilio Fernandez Miró and Joan Punyet Miró – and by María José Salazar, art historian and member of the Botín Foundation’s Plastic Arts Advisory Committee, all of whom are closely related to the management of the artist’s patrimony.
Joan Miró: Sculptures 1928-1982 is one of the most thorough anthological exhibitions held to date on the artist’s sculptures. It is a complete journey through Miró’s sculptural work (quitaría esto) since his beginnings in 1928 until his final piece in 1982.
