Carsten Höller builds pieces to show the conclusions of his artistic research, encouraging people to interact with his works instead of just looking at them.
Twins will make you think about a subject that has always interested Höller – the doppelgänger. Is a replica the same as the original? Or does it introduce a twist in the object it is supposed to mirror?
Twins give the best answer to this question. Identical twins are filmed in every city the exhibition travels to, joining those from the places where it has been before. At present, there are nine pairs of twins, one set from Santander and eight from other cities.
The piece consists of 18 screens on either side of a corridor, from which the twins look at and speak to each other simultaneously, each in their own language. They say similar phrases with opposite meanings. A doppelgänger tower intended to mess with our senses and lead us to think about the artist’s point of view on this subject.
