Like Platform or Swinging Curve, Swinging Spiral elaborates on the concept of the division and subdivision of space.
The tunnel you are looking at is based on a complex spiral formula for building a piece that grows in height while narrowing its width.
But there is more to it, since it is Höller’s intention to affect the way you perceive what you see by creating an installation that hovers a few millimetres above the floor. This, however, you will not notice at first, but it will make you think.
Get in and walk through Höller’s Swinging Spiral. Walk slowly and peacefully, trying to find out why the experience produces the sensations it does on you. Everything changes when you are in, but what is it exactly that changes? You? What surrounds you? Space? The way you perceive space? All of the above?
