Two elements never fail to appear in the work of Carsten Höller: the different ways in which we perceive reality and science. Both provide the artist with the resources he needs to create his artworks and make us reflect on what we see.
Pill Clock is a timepiece that drops a pill onto the floor at least once every three seconds, building a mound in the exhibition room.
According to Höller, the pills falling down to the floor transform the way the viewer sees the world around them. What does he mean: the way you enjoy the work of art or the way you see the world after taking one of the pills?
Give it a try. Alter the work of art. Take one of the pills on the floor; they will do no harm. Swallow the pill. Continue enjoying the exhibits. After a while ask yourself whether you notice any change in you. Is this change physical, mental or both?
