In this album, Goya drew what has happening to people living in a country at war. There was little money and great shortages of basic products. For that reason, this is the only album drawn in a notebook and painted with writing ink. Goya found it difficult to find sketchbooks and art materials at this time.
The people Goya drew in this album were going through hard times owing to the major poverty and sorrow left by war. These people are drawn in dark disturbing spaces. Spaces that in the previous album he did not draw because there what was truly important was what was happening between people. Here, people and their emotions depend on the place in which they are situated, and for that reason, Goya gives us more information.
Are you able to imagine what these people are experiencing?
