Three minutes an hour. It works from dusk to dawn every hour.
The mission of Fundación Botín goes beyond the Botín Centre, as does Carsten Höller’s work, which goes beyond the Centre’s walls and somehow conquers the Pereda Gardens.
This is an invisible work that is out there to be felt for three minutes every hour. 7.8Hz is an intervention on the lighting system of the park surrounding the gallery. A gradual change in the frequency of the electrical system alters our perception for 3 minutes, during which the place looks different.
A flickering light bathes the park at 7.8Hz, known popularly as Schumann Resonance – the frequency of both the electromagnetic field of the Earth and our brainwaves. This frequency triggers the release of growth hormones and increases blood flow throughout the body, helping us attain a higher level of consciousness and wellbeing
