Itinerarios XXIV brings together projects by Irma Álvarez-Laviada (Gijon, 1978), Elena Bajo (Madrid, 1976), Josu Bilbao (Bermeo, Vizcaya, 1978), Felipe Dulzaides (La Habana, Cuba, 1965), Rafa Munárriz (Tudela, Navarra, 1990), Alex Reynolds (Bilbao, 1978), Leonor Serrano Rivas (Malaga, 1986) and Pep Vidal (Tarrasa, 1980), artists selected in the Botín Foundation’s 24th Call for Visual Art Grants, whose works act as a snapshot of the latest artistic tendencies.
Understanding our own relationship with “reality” seems to be the main concern of most of the works on display in the exhibition. Time and the exhibition space become key elements to deploy artistic proposals that “re-portray” fragments of reality which would otherwise be ignored or go unnoticed. Sharing the exhibition space also fosters a dialogue between the different projects, bringing out common elements.
The catalogue, as a reflection of the exhibition, offers an interesting perspective of the work of a new generation of artists and those aspects on which they focus their thought and their practice, appreciating in all of them a recurrence towards certain concerns and methodologies. They all share an interest in exploring the domain in which we live, as if they were scientists or archaeologists, and they show the result of their processes as a type of evidence.
